Islamic University of Technology IUT Admission Circular

Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Dhaka, Bangladesh, a subsidiary organ of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announces the statement for admission in the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes as detailed below in the field of Engineering, Technology and Technical Education for the Academic Year 2017-2018 commencing from 21 November, 2017. Duly filled in application form for admission should reach the University on or before 20 September, 2017 from candidates of Member States other than host country. For candidates from host country, the deadline for submission of applications will be announced later in the website and local newspapers.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Four-Year Bachelor of Science Programme / Higher Diploma Programmes Higher/Upper Secondary School Certificate / A Level (science background) from a Board/University or its equivalent. The candidates are required to have good grades (minimum grade ‘B’ or equivalent having at least 60% marks) in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and minimum grade B in SSC / ‘O’ Level or equivalent in English. The year of passing should be the current year or one year earlier.

 

Bachelor of Science in Technical Education:

Diploma in Technical Education/Higher Diploma in Engineering from IUT.

Diploma in Technical Education:

Diploma in Engineering in the relevant field awarded by a Board of Technical Education or its equivalent.

For Host Country (Bangladesh) B.Sc in Engineering Applicants

  • Candidates will have option for admission in 4-year Bachelor Programme in the department of CEE, CSE, EEE and MCE only
  • Candidates for the above Programmes must have minimum GPA 4.5 in both S.S.C.(or equivalent) and H.S.C.(or equivalent) Examinations
  • Candidates who passed O-level and A-level Examinations must have scored minimum grade B in each subject (O-level: English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and one addition course (subject); A-level: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)
  • Candidates must have passed H.S.C (or equivalent) examination either in 2016 or in 2015.
  • Candidates must be Muslim male/female student.

Medical Requirement

Applicants having cardiac problem or contagious and communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, venereal diseases, AIDS, HIV positive, hepatitis B etc. are ineligible for admission.

Each nomination should be accompanied with

  1. Application in the prescribed form, available in the office of the Nominating Authority and Focal Points or can be downloaded from the links below in the section Application Forms, duly filled in, along with attested copies of academic certificates, mark-sheets/transcript, character certificate, English proficiency certificate or TOEFL/IELTS score certificate.
  2. Report from an authorized Medical Practitioner on
    1. eye-sight, hearing and general fitness for prolonged mental and physical exertion
    2. blood and urine
    3. chest X-ray
    4. contagious & communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis, venereal diseases, AIDS, HIV positive, hepatitis B etc. and also on cardiac problem.
  3. A letter from the nominating authority/guardian assuring that a return air-ticket will be sent for the nominating candidate to the University by first week of September of his graduating year.

Medium of Instruction

The Medium of Instruction and Examination is English. As such all students are required to have good knowledge of English.The candidates for admission should have proficiency in English language (Preferably TOEFL/IELTS/etc.) and submit the proficiency certificate at the time of application.

Application System for IUT

Prospective undergraduate students from all the OIC member states with an exception of the host country Bangladesh, can apply following standard procedures (filling up an application form) through the nominating authorities officially appointed by the respective countries.

It is to be noted that candidates may also apply directly through IUT web portals (www.iutoic-dhaka.edu/admission), however, preference will be given to the nominated candidates.

For Host Country (Bangladesh) B.Sc in Engineering Applicants

  • Education Boards of Bangladesh: Candidates must apply through Teletalk SMS service from 25 August 2016 to 02 October 2016.
  • O-Level and A-Level: Candidates must apply through iut website from 25 August 2016 to 02 October 2016. Then pay the application fee through TeleTalk SMS within 02 October 2016.
  • Instructions about how to apply through TeleTalk SMS will be available here on 25 August at 11 AM.
  • Application fee: 1000 BDT (including taletalk service charge)

Nomination and Selection Criteria of IUT

Host Country (Bangladesh)

a) Merit List for Admission Test:
First 2500 candidates will be selected for Admission Test based on marks(X) obtained in HSC and SSC out of 100. Marks (X) will be calculated from GPA as per following rule-

X= Selected subjects GPA of HSC * 12 + Selected subjects GPA of SSC * 8

  • Then the same procedure will be applied as described above to be included in the final merit list.
  • Selected subjects will be as follows:
    • A level: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, plus English grades of O level will be considered.
    • O level: Grades of 5 subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English plus one remaining subject with best grade.

For Expatriate Students

For expatriate students, nominations of eligible candidates for the programmes are to be sent to IUT in order of merit based on tests conducted by the Nominating Authority and Focal Points of the Member States of the OIC as prescribed by the University, by 20 September, 2016.

It is to be noted that candidates may also apply directly through IUT web portals (www.iutoic-dhaka.edu/admission), however, preference will be given to the nominated candidates.

The final selection of the students will be made by the Admission Committee of the University on receipt of nominations from Nominating Authorities, and taking into consideration of their academic performance, merit, age, past conduct and geographical distribution.

Maximum 3 candidates from each OIC member states will be given OIC scholarship. Vacant scholarships will be distributed among the remaining eligible candidates from OIC member states for scholarship.

If, however, the number of suitable candidates for a particular programme/specialization is not sufficient, it will not be offered by the University. Names of the provisionally selected candidates will be published in the website of the University (www.iutoic-dhaka.edu/admission).

After completing one programme at IUT, a student may be allowed to pursue a second programme if he has the minimum required grade and also selected by the Admission Committee for the same. No one is allowed to pursue more than two programmes continuously. All are required to return to their respective countries immediately after completing the programme at the University.
